Journal Times coverage: Mitchell School eighth graders collect more than 4,000 items for food drive

By Ryan Patterson

Students smiled as they carried and unloaded boxes Monday morning.

That was the culmination of a Mitchell K-8 School eighth grade capstone project where students donated more than 4,000 items to the Racine County Food Bank and Women’s Resource Center.

Mitchell students Monica Martinez and Javaya Young appreciated helping the community and said it was meaningful to see the results of their efforts.

“It feels good to give back to our community and see people in need getting what they need,” Martinez said.

It was a new experience for students to organize a food drive and collect donations, but they said it went well.

The rest of the story, including the support of the food drive through a United Way of Racine County Youth As Resources grant, can be read at The Journal Times website.
