VITA Returns More Than $1,000,000 in 2019 Refunds

May 17, 2019 — Another successful year of VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) is in the books. In 2019, 43 volunteers donated more than 1450 hours of time to assist low-to-moderate income taxpayers with tax preparation and e-filing—and taxpayers are delighted.

"I know #UWRCVITAWorks because I could get [my taxes] done easy and fast: No hassle. No cost," writes Yamie S., a recipient of VITA's services. "[It's] very, very convenient, so I would recommend this program to anybody if you're very 'serious' about your taxes."

"I know #UWRCVITAWorks because they helped me with my taxes on the spot," writes another recipient, Roxie Finley. "I find it very helpful and easy. This program is a program I would recommend for others to come to because it is helpful."

Through VITA and myfreetaxes.com, more than 700 tax returns were filed for free in Racine County.  The total amount of refunds brought back to Racine County taxpayers this year was more than $1 million, and these free services saved taxpayers more than $140,000 in tax preparation fees.

Services will continue through June 25th via Tax Assistance Tuesdays, which are available by appointment.
