The Racine County Youth As Resources board is comprised of youth and adults from Racine County who share a common interest in empowering youth to make a difference in the community.
The board maintains a membership of 75% youth and 25% adults with a total of 25 to 30 board members. All board and committee leadership is a model of youth-adult partnership. A youth member is elected as Board Chair with an adult member as co-chair. The other board officer positions (Secretary and Historian) are filled by youth. Each Committee (Communications, Events, Fundraising, and Membership) operates with youth and adult member co-chairs. Racine County YAR is staffed with a part-time Program Coordinator.
Board members attend one or more meetings per month, serve on a committee, attend project site visits and represent YAR throughout the community. The average time commitment for a board member is approximately 3-8 hours per month, with the majority of YAR events taking place during the school year.
Youth and adults who are interested in becoming board members are welcome to apply at any time. Board member responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Potential board members must understand the value of youth involvement in our community and the power of youth-adult partnerships. Board members must be willing to dedicate time and energy to administer funds for youth-designed, youth-led community service projects throughout Racine County. Board members are accepted throughout the year; all board members complete a re-application each June to maintain their membership into the next program year.
If you believe you fit the membership criteria and are interested in becoming a YAR board member, please contact us to request a board member application or download an application here; complete it and mail it to the YAR office.
